                Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior

                Thursday, November 12, 2015

A free workshop titled "Understanding and Responding to Dementia-related Behavior" will be held Thursday, November 19, 2:00¨C 3:00 pm at Tompkins County Office for the Aging, 214 W. Martin Luther King, Jr./State Street, Ithaca. It is open to anyone concerned about a relative or friend with memory impairment.

Behavior is a powerful form of communication. It is one of the primary ways for people with dementia to communicate their needs and feelings as the ability to use language is lost. However, some behaviors can present real challenges for caregivers to manage. Join Audrey Lawrence, of the CNY Chapter of the Alzheimer¡¯s Association, who will help you decode behavioral messages, identify common behavior triggers, and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the common behavioral challenges of Alzheimer's disease.

Preregistration is recommended. To register or learn about other supports for family caregivers in Tompkins County, call the Tompkins County Office for the Aging, 274-5492 or email dstoyell@tompkins-co.org.?
