                Safe Medication Disposal Day Saturday, September 26 in Slaterville

                A Safe Medication Disposal event in Tompkins County will be held in Slaterville on Saturday, September 26, in conjuction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's National Drug Take Back.? The collection event gives residents the opportunity to safely dispose of expired or no longer needed household medications.

                The September 26 collection will take place at the Slaterville Fire Station, 2681 Slaterville Road, Slaterville Springs.? Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

                The process is quick and easy, taking just a few minutes, and will be supervised by local law enforcement.? If possible, organizers ask that you leave medications in their original container and use a marker to cross out your name and address.

                Here's what you can bring to Disposal Day:? Prescription drugs (controlled and non-controlled), over-the-counter medications, and pet medicines.? Medications can come in any form:? pills, powders, liquids, patches, inhalers, or capped Epipens.

                Here's what won't be accepted:? Mercury thermometers, mercurochrone, and other mercury-containing products; also, sharps (syringes, needles, and diabetic lancets); medical waste (items with blood or bodily fluid on them); any other hazardous waste; and personal care products that don't contain medicine, such as shampoo or sunscreen.
